SCOUTING NEWS FROM AROUND THE COUNCIL

Spring/ Summer 2005

Webelos to Boy Scouts!

Second-year Webelos from the Amangi Trail District seized the opportunity of a beautiful day and a large bridge to conduct a special District-wide bridging ceremony to celebrate the transition from Webelos to Boy Scouts to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Cub Scouts and the 95th anniversary of Boy Scouts in America!

What Can You do to Celebrate
the 75th Anniversary of Cub Scouts?

From now through December 2005, Cub Scouting celebrates its 75th Anniversary—75 years of doing our best and still having fun! The Cub Scouts, families, and leaders in your dens and pack will want to be a part of this once-in-a-lifetime celebration. Here is a list of ideas to help celebrate the 75th!

1. Promote the 75th Anniversary Award by ensuring that all members of your pack, including Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, Webelos Scouts, families, and leaders, have copies of the requirements (available from the council office).

2. Plan a celebration commemorating the 75th Anniversary of Cub Scouting by making the anniversary the theme for your blue and gold banquet.

3. Plan a membership event using the 75th Anniversary as your theme.

4. Conduct a service project for your chartered organization or the community. If possible, post a sign telling the public about your project.

5. Find out about typical games of the 1930s and play one or more at pack or den meetings during the year.

6. Have your pack historian start or update your den or pack scrapbook.

7. Look for former leaders in your pack and invite them to a special event. You might place notices in your chartered organization’s newsletter, local newspapers, and school newsletters and with local radio and television stations asking former leaders to contact someone in your pack. (Be sure to provide contact information—e-mail, phone, or address.)

8. Encourage Cub Scouts to research the Internet (with adult assistance) to find out about the history of Cub Scouting. Dens can use the information they learn to write a skit or puppet show to perform at the monthly pack meeting.

Cub Scout Race
for  Membership!

As a local council of the Boy Scouts of America, we strive to have a positive effect on the lives of as many young people as possible and help them achieve their full potential in life by providing meaningful programs for them.

There are thousands of youth and families within the boundaries of our council who have not been invited to join in the fun and adventure of our Cub Scouting program. As a dedicated leader, you know that the true benefit of Cub Scouting comes directly from our Cub Scout packs.

We have developed a round-up resource package to assist your pack in implementing and conducting a successful round-up program event; in addition to effectively delivering the Cub Scouting program to the young people in our communities. This 2005 round-up package includes plans, ideas, materials, and best methods to help you invite more boys and families into your pack. As a supplement to this resource package, we will hold training sessions in conjunction with upcoming roundtable meetings to help you implement the contents of this package and further your success.

We look forward to your participation in this year’s round-up program, which was designed to help you make a positive impact upon our community. A major endeavor such as this can be totally successful only when the council, districts, and packs work together in unison. Together, we will make a difference for the youth and families that we serve and together, we will deliver them a quality Cub Scouting program.
