SCOUTING NEWS FROM AROUND THE COUNCIL

SPRING 2006

Welcome to Our New DE!

GOODBYE, BUT
NOT FAREWELL!

Hello, my name is Brad McCormick. I’m the newest member of the Concho Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America and I’ll be working in the San Angelo area as a District Executive of the Amangi Trail District.

I have an Associates Degree in Graphic Design from Luzerne County Community College. I also have a Bachelors Degree in Communications from Pennsylvania State University.

My Scouting career has 18 years of history behind it. I have been in the scouting program from Tiger Cub to Eagle Scout. I was a Wyona Lodge 18 Order of the Arrow Lodge Chief in 2001. I received my Vigil honor as a member of the Order of the Arrow Lodge 18. I also have Woodbadge training as a member of the Owl Patrol. I have had other training courses such as New Leader Essentials, Youth Protection, Scout Master Specifics, and Outdoor Leader Skills. I’m also trained in CPR/AED and I also have First Aid certification.

Summer Camp has created some of my most memorable Scouting experiences. I have been on shooting sports staff at Camp Lavigne, a small camp in Pennsylvania. My favorite summer camp job is Camp Commissioner. I have been to National Camp School for Camp Commissioner and Program Director (Boy Scout and Cub Scout).

I served my previous Council by volunteering to help out with popcorn and Friends of Scouting drives. Currently I am enjoying my time here in the Concho Valley Council as the newest District Executive of the Amangi Trail District. I look forward to meeting and working with each and every person associated with the community. I am anticipating many more exciting adventures within the Concho Valley Council Boy Scouts of America.

I would like to take this opportunity to let you know about some of the events and activities that will be taking place in our district over the next couple of weeks and months. First and foremost I extend an invitation to attend the Roundtable and Commissioner meetings on the Second Thursday of every month at Sierra Vista Methodist Church on College Hills just behind IHOP. The Roundtable is a great place for Cub leaders to learn exciting ideas that you can use for your program. Boy Scout roundtable will be centered on the District Camporee (Please mark in your calendars for that event. The Camporee will be the weekend of April 8th). The roundtable will also be a great chance for all of you to meet me if you have not yet done so.

Here is a schedule of events for the Amangi Trail District. Mark your calendar for the next couple of weeks and months. Baloo Training and District Crossover will be on the Weekend of March 31 – April 1st at Baden Powell. This event is recommended for any leader who has not yet had outdoor training. The outdoor Baloo training is a vital course, it enables leaders to take the boys on safe and enjoyable outdoor activities. The District Camporee will be on April 7- April 8th at Baden Powell.  Webelos Scouts sponsored by a Troop may attend this event. Troops may stay and camp out an extra evening into Sunday morning as long as the unit wishes to do so. We will also have a basic leader training on the 29th of April. Please call the Council Office for more updates, and specific details on any of these upcoming events.

If there are any questions or concerns about the Boy Scouts of America or the District feel free to contact me at the Scout Office (325)-655-7107 or my cell at (325)-277-5712. As a personal note I ask you to please share this with individuals who may not have received this information. Thank you for all your time and support.

It’s been a great 3+ years. My family and I have enjoyed being a part of the Concho Valley Council and a part of this Southwest Texas family of Scouting. We have made lots of friends and it is very hard to leave this wonderful place.

I want to say that it has been an honor and a privilege to serve as your Assistant Scout Executive. Some of you have been very gracious in saying I am the best Assistant Scout Executive the Concho Valley Council has ever had. Since I can find no mention of the council ever having had an Assistant Scout Executive before (making me the only one) I would have to agree with you!

You realize that Scouting professionals (District Executives, Field Directors, Scout Executives and even one Assistant Scout Executive) come and go. Some stay longer than others, but eventually they all go on to do other things. The one constant is you, the volunteers. You have the ultimate responsibility to keep the Scouting movement going. The mission is simple:

To provide the opportunity to join Scouting to every youth available in our geographic area.
