Fair Share Time for the United Way

Each Fall the United Way Agencies begin their Finance Campaigns.  The Concho Valley Council is a proud member agency of some Local United Way groups.  The Boy Scouts of America has been affiliated with the United Way for many years.

Please remember to give your Fair Share to your local United Way.  You may designate your contribution to the Concho Valley Council, BSA on your form.  This money will be directed to us in our allocation from each United Way.

For those of you in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) and State agencies  please mark box #5024 for the Concho Valley Council.  Your contribution will stay in the local economy.

Cub Dad Weekends

Cub-Dad Weekend is an opportunity for quality time spent between dads (or a male adult partner) and Cub Scouts.  The location is Camp Sol Mayer and the dates are September 26-27 and October 17-18.  Registration fee is $15.00 per person.  This includes the Saturday evening meal and the Sunday breakfast served in the dining hall.

Starting time is 12:45 PM  with check-in as early as 10:00 AM.

What better way to spend a weekend than with your Cub Scout in an outdoor setting with canoeing, archery BBshooting,  wrist rockets, an obstacle course, various games and an evening campfire.  You can even bring your fishing gear and bait to try your luck in the San Saba River. Bring your own tent (we have tents for use if necessary but they have no floors) and your personal camping gear.  Each campsite has water, bathrooms, but no lighting.  Hot showers are located nearby.  All areas of the camp will be available for fishing, hiking or just walking around enjoying nature.

Register with your pack or as an individual.  Bring or send your fees to the  Council Service.

Silver Beaver Nominations

The Silver Beaver Award is the highest form of recognition that a local council can award for volunteer service to youth.

Although presentation is made by the Council, all nominations submitted must be approved by the National Court of Honor before the award can be presented.  Only those persons who have been nominated by their Scouting peers are considered by the local council and the award may not be personally applied for.  The selection process in the Concho Valley Council involves a Silver Beaver Selection Committee meeting on November 14, 1998.

Anyone desiring to place a nomination can do so by picking up a nomination form at the Council Service Center or calling and requesting a form be mailed.  The deadline for making nominations for 1998 is November 6, 1998. This is a great opportunity to see deserving Scout Leaders recognized for their unselfish and outstanding service to the youth of our council.
