WE NOW HAVE
TWO PHILMONT TREKS IN
JULY 2000! Interested
in participating in a high - adventure backpacking trek at Philmont Scout
Ranch?
If you
are a 1st class scout, at least 14 years old, and are in good physical
shape, you are invited to apply for one of the TWO treks the Concho Valley
Council has reserved for July 1st, 2000.
You and
8 of your friends, plus 3 adult leaders may end up:
-climbing
13,000 foot mountains
-shooting
a black powder rifle
-panning
for gold
-exploring
a gold mine
-climbing
65 foot rock cliffs
-racing
burros
-Mountain Man Rendezvous
-having
the experience of a lifetime

High Adventure Committee will select 18 youth and 6 adult leaders from
qualified applicants. Apply now! $50.00 deposit is required at time
of application. Philmont treks are difficult to obtain and fill up fast! |

The districts
of Amistad and Winter Garden would like to welcome the following brand

In addition
to these new units we have signed up over 750 new boys into the scouting
program this fall. Our two districts are really on a roll with much
improved turnouts at our Cub and Scout roundtables and training sessions.
On top of all this, over 31 units have signed up to sell in the council
popcorn fund raiser.
Way to
Go Amistad and Winter Garden District Volunteers! Without you, we
could never have achieved these great accomplishments! And more great things
are yet to come!

Successful
1999 Fall Camporee The two districts
would like to thank the following people for helping to plan and coordinate
the successful 1999 Fall Camporee held at Camp Fawcett on October 22-24th.
Joe Robinette - Camporee
Chairman and Troop 255 Scout leaders Gary and Linda Schreiber and Roger
Ridley. Also, many thanks to all the Scout leaders in several troops
who helped to run the individual events. Finally, a big congratulations
goes to Troop 257 of Brackettville for winning the Presidential ribbon
for best overall troop winner in the dozen or so troop skilled timed events!

to Host Explorer Post Advisors
and Presidents Quarterly
Meetings
Amistad/ Winter
Garden Districts are starting a quarterly Exploring Post Adviser/Post Presidents
Meetings starting December 11th, 1999, Del Rio Border Patrol Post has agreed
to host the first meeting and Eagle Pass Border Patrol will host the second
meeting on March 11th , 2000. Both meetings will start at 12 Noon
at their station office. So, all Exploring Post Advisors and Post
Presidents are invited to these important meetings to help plan and coordinate
future Exploring events, meetings, and training in our two districts.
