Permian Basin Camporee
Success Story

The Great Permian Basin District had its annual Fall Camporee Halloween weekend.  Though attendance was less than hoped for, a great time was had by all.  The troops represented were Troop 19 from Sonora, Troop 54 from Fort Stockton, and Troop 58 from Big Lake.  The Ram patrol of Troop 54 took First Place in the overall competition, with the Scorpions of Troop 58 taking second and the Sharks of Troop 54 taking third in the overall competition.  The five events consisted of Land Navigation, Knots and Lashing, First Aid, Emergency Preparedness and Cobbler Cooking (the staff favorite).

It should be mentioned that this Camporee would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the volunteers that made up the Camporee Committee and the staff.  The Camporee Committee was made up of  Roy Armstrong, Frank Baker, Rev. Roger Cash, Rev. Jim Miles, and Tilden Stewart.  While Rev. Miles and Mr. Stewart  were unable to attend, the rest of the Committee was in attendance and helped staff the Camporee in addition to Michael Chambers, Kirk Deissler, and David McMassters.

It is because of  these volunteers that we had such a great time this weekend.  I thank them for their effort and participation, and the next time you see someone who volunteers to work with the Boy Scouts take the time to shake their hand and tell them.

Thank You !

New Units in the Great
