GARFIELD PROMISES TO DO HIS BEST FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!!!

This fall, Garfield is sporting a new coat and a new “cattitude”!  The fat cat will be trading in some of those lazy, lasagna-eating days for some fun and adventure with the Cub Scouts.  Garfield has taken the Cub Scout promise to do his best for God and country and to help others.  This is exactly what the Boy Scouts of America had in mind when it invited Garfield to be its spokescat and help them reach young people through his playful charm.

“We are very excited to have Garfield on board, helping us reach young boys and generating interest in the Cub Scout program,” said John Landers, Council President.  “This is an excellent opportunity to introduce Cub Scouting to more American families.”

The council plan calls for Garfield’s volunteer leaders to go to each elementary school in the council and hold an open house.  New boys will be invited to join the Cub Scouts because as Garfield says “ Too much fun is never enough”.

The crossroads of America Council, creator of the Cub Scout Garfield concept, has experienced two years of substantial growth and increased public awareness of Scouting since the Garfield campaign’s implementation. Garfield and Cub Scouting seem to be the purrrrfect match to bring values to young boys.

The Concho Valley Council’s Cub Scout program currently serves nearly 3,000 boys in the first through fifth grades (or ages 6 through 10).  Cub Scouting combines fun with educational activities and lifelong values.  Research conducted by Louis Harris & Associates in 1997 indicates that one year in the Cub Scout program provides a healthy, safe environment in which boys learn important values develop and self-confidence.  The research also indicates that the program provides a forum in which parents and sons spend quality time together going places, doing projects, talking, and reading.  For more information about this study or the Cub Scout program, contact the council service center.  For more information about this study or the Cub Scout program, contact the council service center.
