Phase Two of Scouting’s 90th Anniversary
Encourages Former Scouts to Rekindle the Spirit

As the Concho Valley Council concludes the Salute-A-Leader phase of Scouting’s 90th Anniversary celebration, plans are already underway to kick off phase two of the celebration Rekindle the Spirit. This part of the celebration is designed to encourage former Scouts to rekindle their spirit for and become reinvolved in the Scouting movement.

The beginning of Rekindle the Spirit is timed to coincide with Scout Sunday, February 6, 2000. Throughout the council’s service area, unit leaders will be thanking chartered organizations for their support and acknowledging Scouting’s 90th Anniversary. Leaders also will encourage others in the chartered organizations to become adult volunteers and take an active role in shaping the lives of youth.

To help capture those fond Scouting memories, the Concho Valley Council is planning a special Rekindle the Spirit Leadership Recognition Event.   The event will on Saturday, February 12, 2000 beginning at 2 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Loop 306, San Angelo.  All Scouters and former  Scouts are encouraged to attend.  Present council leaders will be recognized for their outstanding service and commitment to the youth of our council.  The meeting will be highlighted by the presentation of four Silver Beaver Awards, the highest recognition presented by a local council.

Those Scouts who attended the 1950 National Scout Jamboree will gather for this event and enjoy a reception following the council recognition.  The cost to participate will be $ 2.00 per person.

Friends Of Scouting

Our annual Friends Of Scouting (F.O.S.) fund raising campaign will be kicking off in January. The success of this campaign will insure the continued growth of the Scouting program in our area. Friends Of Scouting dollars provide program support for all our Scouting Units throughout our 24 county area. If you are reading this article you are benefiting from the generosity of our Scouting Supporters.

1999 was a benchmark year for the Concho Valley with significant increases in the number of youth served throughout our Council. Highlights include a 94% increase in youth membership in Maverick County, a high water mark of 44 new Eagle Scouts, the introduction of our Learning For Life Character Education program in 3 local Schools, dramatic increases in Cub Scout Family and Boy Scout Troop Camping, improvements to our local camps, and great strides in our ScoutReach disadvantaged Youth Program.

All these accomplishments were backed by the dollars our Friends generously donated through the Friends Of Scouting Campaign.

As Scouting enters the new millennium, the Concho Valley Council will, with your support, continue to deliver the promise of Scouting to the young people of our area.

For More Information on how you can become a Friend Of Scouting call the Scout Service Center at (655-7107 or 800-321-7107).
